Measure — 01 · VO₂ / CPET

VO₂ max testing

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing. It shows whether your lungs, your heart or your muscles set your ceiling.

Approximately 60 minutes in clinic

What it is

A cardiopulmonary exercise test measures the gas you breathe in and out, breath by breath, while your work rate rises on a cycle ergometer or treadmill under supervision. From that we derive your oxygen uptake, your ventilatory thresholds and the point at which oxygen uptake stops rising.

The number most people know is VO₂ max. The more useful output is the shape of the response: where your first threshold sits, how efficiently you use oxygen below it, and which system runs out first. A wrist device estimates; this measures.

The test is conducted by our physicians with ECG and oxygen saturation monitoring throughout, and stopped on clinical grounds at any point.

What happens

  1. 01Screening questionnaire and resting ECG
  2. 02Mask fitted and calibrated, resting measurement recorded
  3. 03Incremental exercise to volitional or clinical endpoint
  4. 04Active recovery with continued monitoring
  5. 05Results interpreted with a physician, in person or by video

Who it is for

  • Anyone training seriously who wants intensity zones set from their own physiology
  • People starting structured exercise after a long gap
  • Anyone with unexplained breathlessness on exertion who has already seen a doctor about it
  • People who want an objective baseline to repeat over years
